About the Hike
This 3.2 mile hike starts at the Cheyney Post Office and follows the Luckenbach Trail east along Chester Creek into Bonner Park, where we’ll cross the old R3 railroad tracks and ascend to the preserved ruins of a house with a unique story from the Revolutionary War.

Special Guests from Thornbury Township
We’re excited to share that members of Thornbury Township’s Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) will be joining us on this hike! An EAC is a group of residents who provide advisory services and environmental education to their township. Thornbury’s EAC has established and oversees the trails we’ll be hiking on. Their mission statement says it all:
“Our mission has been to preserve open space in the township, to extend the length of existing ‘greenways’ and to provide residents with the opportunity to savor the natural scenic beauty that exists in our own community.”

Edgmont Township does not have an EAC but Edgmont’s 2015 Comprehensive Plan does discuss three potential ways to increase resident discussion and awareness of open space and natural resources:
- The establishment of an Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC)
- The assembly of a less formal “open space and recreation” committee that would report to the BOS
- Expanding the Planning Commission by two members who focus on natural and historic resource issues
By sponsoring hikes and rallying local support for Township initiatives, Connect Edgmont hopes to identify a network of like-minded residents who will support and participate in future trails and open space projects including – potentially – the formation of an Edgmont EAC.
We hope you’ll join us April 3rd to enjoy a beautiful hike in our neighboring township!
